Tray Icons for Gnome v0.7 Dark by rafeviper Tray Icons for Gnome v0.7 Dark by rafeviper
This is the dark version of the tray icon theme I'm working on. I want to all tray icons have the same width and height. Any suggestions? Comments? They're all welcome.

To install the icon theme, you just need to extract the content to the next folder:

/home/(your username)/.icons

And that's it!

To use the "volume alt." icons, go to the folder "status/22/volume-alt/equalizer", copy all the files and paste them on "status/22". If you don't like them, you can restore to the default icons by copying the files on "status/22/volume-alt/speaker" and paste them on "status/22".

*If you want to download the regular version of this icon theme, go here [link]

Update:
11/02: Release date of the dark version.

wow I love these so stylish!

can you please make an icon for wired connection? I don't like it when tray icons don't look matched, and that one icon is bigger than the rest.

The Dropbox icon doesn't seem to work; any pointers?

Great icons, by the way! Do you think you could also make an icon for a wired connection?

Using it with Faenza and Moblin. I made a mix of these three themes.

Claro.

I like these a whole lot. Generally I don't mess with that stuff because I think the tray icons were basically nailed down in Lucid, but these are sweet.

What I like about these is that they NEARLY feel like pixel art. If you're shooting for everything being the same size, maybe going the pixel art route would really drive the point home. If not, I'll have to try my hand at that sometime :P

Thanx dude, I'm glad that you like them.

I have a question, what do you mean when you say pixel art? It's some sort of technique? I'm not a designer, not even an amateur on GIMP =) =). An explanation to that would be great =)

stuff that's meant to replicate the look of 8 and 16 bit console games. might actually be hard to approximate since those icons are so small anyway. I just thought the simplicity of it is charming. So many of the linux design things you see do sloppy shit like like embossing and blue-on-black. Even the buntu icons didn't start to look good till the human theme and Lucid and onwards taskbar icons.

Anyway, I don't quite feel like getting gimp out to check atm, but the way I would approximate the look in photoshop would be 1. draw what I want, 2. bump it down to the pixel art target size (probably 16 by 16 but I forget) with resampling set to 'nearest neighbor' and 3. bump it back up to the actual resolution, again at 'nearest neighbor'. It's been a while since I've done pixel art though, and I've never made an .svg file, so all the above may not be that helpful. I'll give it a shot later...

I thought you meant something about 8 or 16 bit art, but I wasn't sure. I agree with you that those pixel art are cool for its simplicity. It wouldn't be a bad idea to do that, if you do it, let us know =).

About the process in Photoshop, I don't know if there is a way in GIMP, cuz when you resample something big to small, it gets awful cuz it looks very blurry... that is why I'm working these icons directly on 22x22 size, but not using all the space, just half of it =).

And about .svg file... I haven't tried that either... I have no idea how to use Inkscape...

Went and checked. Definitely making them by hand at the target resolution is a way to do it. In gimp, if you want to scale something up and maintain the pixel effect, it's alt i-s and set the interpolation to 'none'.

I haven't messed with inkscape much either, though I should. One time, long ago, I had a working knowledge of adobe illustrator. Anyway, I imagine you'd want the SVGs so your icons could be scalable. Especially considering how popular programs like docky and awn bar (all of their base icon sizes are 48x48 I think) are with a lot of the gtk modders.

I didn't know about that... as you say: we learn something new everyday :).

Mainly the icons were made to fit on a 24 pixels size panel, but now that you mention it... it would be a good idea to use Inkscape to create scalable icons =)... I can see that I'm gonna need a lot of massages =P

now I'm trying to make SVGs but I keep freezing gnome panel when I try to pick 'em for custom application launchers. there must be more to this than I thought XP.
